DC Improv Standup Set
In August 2018, I fulfilled the dream that was born in middle school when my best friend and I would stay up late into the night reading aloud to each other from Jerry Seinfeld’s Seinlanguage and cracking up. Later, I’d get on the family computer when no one was around and write bits, although I didn’t know that’s what they were at the time. I spent my formative years listening to my parents’ old comedy albums, and when I became a military spouse, comedy podcasts were a huge morale booster during deployments and separations. Last year, my amazing husband encouraged me to apply for the Armed Services Arts Partnership Comedy Bootcamp. This six week course allows military-affiliated folks from all walks of life and every generation to develop a five minute standup set, which they then perform at the DC Improv for an audience of (hopefully) appreciative family and friends.
I’ve performed versions of the set posted below at various places in the greater DC area. It’s the product of collaboration with my ASAP peers and mentors, brainstorming sessions with family and friends, and living the life of a mom and military spouse.
I’ve turned off the comments to protect my fragile ego, so please watch!
